As in the days of Paul, (1Corinthians 3:4), there are many Christian labels and their corresponding leaders floating around the body of Christ.
Stephen from “The Blazing Center” has articulated a thought that has been on my mind for a while now. In his post, “I Think I Will Just Be a Normal Christian From Now on, Stephen discusses how in our attempts to better define our commission as Christians, we have limited and perhaps needlessly burdened ourselves by the labels we have created.

This post is about learning to recieve God’s comfort through mourning. First my story…
Several months ago our family suffered the loss of our pet cat. Angel had been in the family for just under a dozen years. My wife Regina rescued her from a shelter where she was slated to be “put down.” This beloved friend is best remembered as a comfort to my wife as she went through her chemotherapy treatments. I too have many fond memories of Angel making her way to my lap as I sipped iced tea, read, or watched television.

This is essentially what I hear from the Christian community when the presidential elections are the topic of discussion. Its either “give us Mitt! He will free us to prosper” or “give Obama 4 more years to fix it.” I understand both of these when taking a purely “natural” look at the condition of the United States. The most important thing for Americans this fall is to elect the correct person….right? WRONG!!

You want me to say “SUBMIT” - don’t you? Men are hoping that I say it. Woman, you’re almost daring me to use the “S” word so you can reply, “I KNEW IT! He’s just another chauvinist / control freak.” This is 2012 for goodness sake!

We tee-off this edition of With Your Latte in Exodus chapter 19. The NLT translates the 6th verse as follows: “you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation. This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.” In that text God declared that the Israelites would be the one and only race of people that would have the privilege of talking with Him, and to make sacrifices on behalf of the people.

The social networks will be lighted up today with Mother’s Day greetings - and so they should. Jesus too honored His mother on more than one occasion. We see this when He, as an adolescent, left His ”Father’s work” to obey His mother Luke2:48-51.
Jesus honored His mom again in at a wedding in Cana. John recorded the account for us in John 2:1-11. as the week ran on the host was running out of wine. As if the people weren’t drunk enough, Mary tells her Son Jesus to see to the problem. After telling Mary that, “it was not yet His time,” Jesus performs the miracle per His mother’s request.
And at the cross - bloody…beaten…and dying - Jesus honored mom by looking at His close friend and author of the book of John and charged him (John) with the responsibly of caring for Mary after His own death. John 19:26
Ephesians 6:1-2 reminds us that God thinks so much of honoring mom that He attaches the promise of long life to it.
So today - send the flowers, make the phone call, and buy her lunch. More importantly find ways of honoring mom each and every day. Make her realize how much you love and appreciate her. If you are at odds with mom - forgive her and move on. As the bible promises “it will go well with you.” And remember, chances are good that your children will treat you in the same manner you treat your own mother.
One of my spiritual sons sent me this about a week go. It is still encouraging me. I trust it will do the same for you.
1 Peter 4: 12-13 The Message Bible
Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job. Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner.
